Indu Bhushan appointed CEO of Ayushman Bharat mission
Indu Bhushan has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Union Government’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission. Bhushan has been appointed to the post for a period of two years.
Bhushan is currently the Director General of East Asia Department, Asian Development Bank in Manila, Philippines. Prior to this, he was the Director General of the Strategy and Policy Department.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to target over 10 crore families belonging to poor and vulnerable population based on the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census database
UP Assembly passes stringent bill to curb organised crime
The state assembly of Uttar Pradesh has passed a stringent bill to curb organised crime and deal strictly with those trying to fuel terror. The legislation had to be re-introduced in the assembly, as it could not be passed in the Legislative Council, where the ruling BJP is in minority.
The UPCOC Bill, 2017 seeks to act sternly against those using explosives or firearms or any other violent means or damaging life and property or involved in anti-national or destructive activities. It provides for punishment amounting from a minimum of three years’ imprisonment to capital punishment.
President of India presents Gallantry Awards
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind presented Gallantry and Distinguished Service awards to armed forces personnel at a solemn ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. The Gallantry awards are given for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty.
Three Kirti Chakras and 17 Shaurya Chakras were conferred to armed personnel this year, among which one Kirti Chakra and five Shaurya Chakras were given posthumously.
The distinguished service awards included fourteen Param Vishisht Seva Medals, one Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and twenty two Ati Vishisht Seva Medals.
Vijay Raghavan appointed as Principal Scientific Advisor to Union Government
Krishnaswamy Vijay Raghavan was appointed as the principal scientific adviser to the government of India. Vijay Raghavan will succeed physicist Rajagopala Chidambaram who served the position for more than 16 years. Vijay Raghavan is a former Director of National Centre for Biological Sciences and was appointed as Secretary of Department of Biotechnology in 2013.
Department Of Posts Launches Cool EMS Service Between India And Japan
The Union Ministry of Communications launched the Cool EMS Service between India and Japan.Cool EMS service is one-way service from Japan to India which allows customers in India to import Japanese food items for personal use, under Indian regulations. Initially, Cool EMS Service will be available in Delhi only. Food items will be carried by Japan Post in special cool boxes containing refrigerant to preserve the quality of the food items.
Reserve bank of India to release limited edition coins to mark 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh
RBI will soon come out with a Rs 350 commemorative coin to mark 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and last Sikh Guru. The coin with standard weight of 35 gram will have 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper and 5 per cent each of nickel and zinc.The coin will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with “Satyamev Jayate” inscribed below.
